How to Use Word Unscrambler & Word Game Guides

Everything you need to know about unscrambling words, working with blank wildcard tiles, understanding point values, and improving your word puzzle scores.

1. Entering Letters & Wildcards

Type up to 15 letters into the input box. You can enter letters in lowercase or uppercase—the solver automatically capitalizes and sanitizes your query.

Using Blank Tiles (? or Space)

In games like Scrabble and Words With Friends, blank tiles can stand for any letter of the alphabet. In our solver, represent a blank tile by typing ? or hitting the + ? button. A blank tile automatically matches any letter that completes a valid dictionary word, and it is scored at 0 points according to official tournament rules.

2. Strategic Filters for Board Placement

When you are playing on a board, you rarely play in a vacuum. You usually need to hook onto an existing letter or avoid blocked squares. Click Show Filters & Options to access:

  • Starts With: Only find words beginning with specific prefix letters.
  • Ends With: Only find words terminating with certain letters or suffixes.
  • Must Contain: Ensure specific letters appear in every result.
  • Exclude Letters: Remove any words containing letters that are unavailable or blocked.
  • Min & Max Length: Narrow down to exact letter counts to fit tight board spaces.

3. Scrabble vs. Words With Friends Scoring

Letter points differ between games. Select your preferred ruleset in the solver to calculate accurate totals:

LetterScrabble StandardWords With Friends
A, E, I, O, R, S, T1 pt1 pt
D, G2 pts2 pts (D) / 3 pts (G)
B, C, M, P3 pts4 pts
J8 pts10 pts
Q, Z10 pts10 pts
Blank Tile (?)0 pts0 pts

4. How to Score 50-Point "Bingos"

If you manage to play all 7 tiles from your rack in a single turn, you are awarded a 50-point bonus in Scrabble (or 35 bonus points in Words With Friends). To hunt for bingos, enter all 7 letters into the solver and set the minimum length to 7.
